Day 6: The Grace to Grow
DEVOTIONAL JOURNAL | ALFRED STREET BAPTIST CHURCH
REV. DR. DUSTIN B. SULLIVAN
“But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ has apportioned it.”
– Ephesians 4:7 NIV
The older I become, the more I am aware of the fingerprint of God’s grace imprinted on
my life. The favor I’ve found, the ways He has made, God’s grace, superimposed on every
degree of accomplishment, every inclination of entitlement, every skillful battle won, and
even those that I’ve lost. His grace overrides all of my mistakes, offering an opportunity
to grow. It’s the grace that loves me through imperfections and remains committed in
the stretching and shaping toward His greater plan. Living by this very motto: “I’ve been
given the grace to grow.” In part, speaks to what is received and equally the inestimable
value of what is gifted.
What does it mean to live out love by offering grace? Perhaps the revelation that God
is stretching within each of us, in the same moment, the opportunity to be something
more. Of Michelangelo, it is said, countless hours were spent at the marble quarry, staring
at shapeless slabs until he could see with his heart what, in time, would become clearer
to his eye. It’s the spectacular brilliance to see what has yet to be sculpted.
Today, may be the opportunity to admire the unfinished form of what is yet to be
sculpted.

REFLECTIONS
What challenges me to see the grace in
others? What does it reveal about me?

PRAYER
Lord, help me see beyond what I see, and allow there
to be an acceptance of the grace given to grow. In Jesus’
Name, Amen.
