Day 20: Stay Flexy
DEVOTIONAL JOURNAL | ALFRED STREET BAPTIST CHURCH
MIN. RASHAD M. ROBERTS, M.DIV.
“…it bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.”
– I Corinthians 13:7- 8a ESV
When I was younger, I remember having annual physical fitness tests. One test was the V Sit and
Reach, which I did pretty well in. This test of flexibility was conducted while seated on the floor,
with our legs extended over a wooden board in a “V” (feet about shoulder-width apart). The
board had pegs to keep our legs and feet positioned and a measuring tape in the middle to see
how far we could reach.
Similarly, in our spiritual journeys, there are challenges that test our flexibility. During these
times, we must bring captive contrary thoughts that may cause us to be boastful, rude, or
vengeful. The right perspective will grow us to love, bear, believe, maintain hope, and endure all
things.
In this passage, Paul describes what love is and what it is not, comparing and contrasting deeds
and giftings. In the end, it is love that is of the most importance. Love that is flexible adjusts,
and responds in a godly way to the challenges of people and circumstances, making us better
disciples. Stay Flexy.

PRAYER
Most gracious and eternal Lord, thank you for loving me
consistently and unconditionally. May this time of prayer
and fasting open my heart to knowing what it is to give
and receive love, unstifled and free. In Jesus’ name. Amen
