DEVOTIONAL JOURNAL | ALFRED STREET BAPTIST CHURCH
Day 1: Live Out Love
with COURAGE
REV. DR. ROSLYN M. BROCK
“By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
– Jeremiah 29:14a
Courage is often thought of as facing physical danger or standing firm in the face of
adversity. Yet, Jesus redefines courage in love, calling us to the boldness of radical,
sacrificial love. Courage in love is not the absence of fear, but the resolve to act despite
it—to forgive when it’s hard, to speak the truth when it’s uncomfortable, and to extend
kindness when it costs us something.
Living out love courageously demands fortitude—the mental, emotional, and moral
strength to love beyond convenience. It is bravery that chooses to see the humanity in
others even when the world tells us to see division. It is the courage to confront injustice
with love as our weapon and reconciliation as our goal.
Jesus modeled this kind of courageous love. On the night He washed His disciples’ feet,
He knew betrayal, denial, and crucifixion awaited Him. Yet, His response was love. He
loved His betrayer, restored His denier, and redeemed humanity. In our “cut-off culture”
fractured by apathy, hatred, and division, love is our witness and the distinguishing mark
of true discipleship.
No matter the situation or circumstance, we are called to boldly show love that is
transformative, fearless, and visible. Let it be our testimony to the world each day that
“courageous love must not skip this generation!”
JOURNAL REFLECTIONS
6
Is God calling us to display courageous love
today by forgiving someone who hurt us,
standing up for marginalized people, or
showing love to neighbors who express
different political beliefs?
PRAYER
God, give us the courage in this present generation, to live
out love in a radical and sacrificial way. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.
