Day 29: AGAPE
DEVOTIONAL JOURNAL | ALFRED STREET BAPTIST CHURCH
MIN. ERROLL MOORE
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not
perish but have eternal life.”
– John 3:16 NIV
The love Jesus speaks of in John 13:35 is not ordinary love. It is AGAPE love. This Greek
word describes God’s unconditional, sacrificial love that seeks the good of others, no
matter the cost or response. It is the love that God demonstrated at the Cross and the love
we are called to live out each day.
In John 3:16, God’s AGAPE love is on full display. His love was not passive but active,
generous, and intentional. God gave His very best, His Son. This sets the example for how
we should love as followers of Christ.
Living out AGAPE love means loving those who are difficult, forgiving those who have
hurt us, and serving others without expecting anything in return. It requires us to set
aside selfishness and focus on the needs of others through God’s grace.
Jesus said that the world would recognize us as His disciples by our love. We stand out
when we choose love over judgment, compassion over indifference, and action over
words.
Reflect on ways to live out AGAPE love. Who needs your forgiveness? Who could
use encouragement, time, or help? Pray for God’s strength to show His love in your
relationships, church, and community.
