Day 35: Perfect
Progress
REV. WILLIAM SPENCER
“Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for
which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.”
– Philippians 3:12, NKJV
“Then God saw everything that he had made, and indeed it was very good.”
– Genesis 1:31a, NKJV
I tell you what… this God we serve is amazing! I always have to keep these two scriptures
in mind. Growing up, I witnessed violence in my household. That violence caused
my parents to separate and divorce. In walked my dad (step), who saw the anger and
confusion in a young boy and taught me other ways to deal and cope with the temper I
was exhibiting. It took years, but my dad pressed on, and I learned how to think before
acting and how to love the way my family loved. That love allows me to see what God
has created and agree that it is indeed - very good. It gives me the understanding that
God is still perfecting us every day, shaping and molding us into what God has in mind.
I translate this love and this perfection into the words of one of my favorite hip-hop
groups, Run-DMC: “Perfection to D is quite essential. He has to live up to his potential. I work really hard all
day and night. I get to it and do it ’cause I want it right.”

REFLECTIONS
What is the potential God is shaping within
you? How is it changing the “you”, the
world experiences?

PRAYER
God, let me remember two things today: I am not where
I was, and I am not where I am going to be.Thank you,
Lord, for the progress and for having me exactly where I
am supposed to be. Amen.
