Day 38: Love:
Honestly and
Authentically…
MIN. ERROLL MOORE
“Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
– John 8:32 NIV
Love and honesty are inseparable in the Christian life. Jesus’ command to love one
another, as highlighted in John 13:35, is the hallmark of discipleship. However, living out
love requires a foundation of honesty with ourselves, with others, and with God. Honesty
reflects integrity, authenticity, and transparency. As Jesus reminds us in John 8:32, the
truth sets us free. Honesty compels us to confront our shortcomings and to love others
despite theirs. It builds trust, fosters healing, and demonstrates the depth of God’s
transforming love.
I experienced profound loss with the passing of my mother the day before Thanksgiving
2024. It was a moment of deep grief. My mother often gave what some call “tough love,”
which was always rooted in truth. She was unafraid to speak the truth, even when it was
difficult. Her honesty guided us to make wise decisions and remain grounded in faith.
Even during her battle with lung cancer, her spirit was not diminished. She carried
herself with quiet yet steadfast faith, showing that honesty with God and others is
a source of strength and freedom. Her life reminds me that honesty is not about
perfection, but about being authentic and open to God’s work in us.
